All walks of life in Guangdong commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911 at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. (Reported by Yang Qiwei, our special correspondent in Guangzhou) On October 8, 2011, all walks of life in Guangdong held a grand meeting to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911 at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou. Wang Yang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, delivered a speech at the meeting, saying that action is the best commemoration and development is the best inheritance. Wang Yang said in his speech that Guangdong is the hometown of the Revolution of 1911 and an important source of inspiration. The achievements of Sun Yat-sen and the pioneers of the Revolution of 1911 will last forever, and the sacrifices of the patriots are always worthy of our remembrance. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911, reviewing history and remembering the martyrs is of great significance and far-reaching influence in inspiring Chinese people at home and abroad to work hard and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Wang Yang said that the reunification of the motherland is Sun Yat-sen's last wish, is the fundamental interest of the Chinese nation, and is the common aspiration of the Chinese people at home and abroad. In his speech, he mentioned that Guangdong and Taiwan are geographically close and have close cultural ties. The Taiwanese floating population in Guangzhou exceeds 200,000, and there are more than 20,000 registered Taiwan-funded enterprises. Guangdong shoulders a huge responsibility in promoting the common development and peaceful reunification of both sides of the Taiwan Strait. All walks of life in Guangdong should further strengthen cross-strait exchanges, expand various exchanges between Guangdong and Taiwan, jointly curb the "Taiwan independence" forces, and achieve common prosperity on both sides of the strait. Wang Yang also said that the outbreak of the Revolution of 1911 was the general trend of modern China, which made the concept of democracy and republic deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and represented the direction of the trend.
