$1 million in cash seized at the border This is the third largest amount of cash seized since 2007 NOGALES, Ariz. – More than $1 million in undeclared currency was seized at the Nogales Port of Entry Monday. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers asked the driver of a minivan to conduct a secondary inspection while on duty at the Port of Entry Dennis DeConcini when they noticed something strange inside the vehicle. After currency was detected in the vehicle, a K-9 officer alerted the vehicle to be inspected. Inspectors found 47 bundles of non-currency factory-wrapped cash. The driver and passenger, both Mexican residents, were arrested and turned over to Homeland Security for investigation. "This shows our diligence, passion and commitment to how well we do our jobs!" said Chief of Operations, James Tong, "Our outbound inspections that intercept illicit funds have had a direct impact on transnational criminal organizations operating in Mexico. This sends a clear message that we are here and we are working hard to defeat them." The amount of cash seized ranks the third largest in Arizona since 2007.
