Of the 10 dangerous intersections in Maricopa County, 5 are in Phoenix (Alberta Times) Recently, the Arizona Department of Transportation released the 10 dangerous intersections in Maricopa County. Surprisingly, half of them are in Phoenix. The state Department of Transportation came to its conclusion based on 2010 data from city police departments, tabulating data on crashes in which personal injury or vehicle damage exceeded $1,000. The most dangerous intersection in Phoenix is at Dunlap and 35th avenues, and the second most dangerous intersection in Maricopa County. Others include Peoria and 43rd avenues, 59th Avenue and Indian School Road, 35th and Peoria avenues, 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road. Most of the above road sections are in northwest Phoenix, and the two intersections of 35th avenue have a high accident rate. According to AAA Arizona spokesperson Michelle Donati, crashes in the state overall dropped 3 percent from 2010 to 2011, but fatal crashes increased 8.7 percent during the same period. Donati said that while transportation agencies have made great efforts to reduce crashes, individual motorists should also bear safety responsibilities.
