After Thanksgiving, the United States enters the peak holiday shopping season, with the biggest discounts on "Black Friday" (24th) and "Cyber Monday" (27th). "Cyber Monday" is often regarded as the little brother of "Black Friday", but in fact, since the end of the previous year, Cyber Monday has had better sales performance than Black Friday.
So, what makes Cyber Monday so special? Here are seven differences between Cyber Monday and Black Friday, listed by CBS News.
Cyber Monday has a more cheerful origin
There is still no definite statement about the origin of the term "Black Friday". Legend has it that the Philadelphia police coined the word with negative connotations in the 1950s. After Thanksgiving on Thursday, with Philadelphia hosting the annual Army/Navy football game on Saturday, crowds of people gathered downtown on Friday. Stores took advantage of the opportunity to offer great deals on merchandise to attract people to shop, while police officers faced long, busy shifts. It wasn't until the 1980s that Black Friday began to gain a wider and better reputation.
But the origin of Cyber Monday is relatively clear, and it only appeared more than ten years ago. The term was coined by the National Retail Federation in 2005 to describe the Monday after Thanksgiving. At that time people continued to shop online after returning to work.
Cyber Monday has fewer ads
During Thanksgiving, many people already know what the best Black Friday deals are before they go out shopping. That's because retailers release Black Friday ads as early as early October. However, we saw relatively few Cyber Monday ads, likely because retailers already have insights into which deals shoppers will be picking up.
Say goodbye to in-store doorbusters
Retailers are seeing fewer ads for doorbusters. Since Cyber Monday is the day for online shopping. Many people believe there is no reason to crowd the doors of their local Bestbuy store.
In general, the "open door rush" is dying. In-store shoppers have long been frustrated by the phenomenon of low-stock items being sold out in seconds. And retailers are starting to listen to shopper feedback.
Nowadays, it is common for retailers to launch so-called Black Friday "door-opening sales" online.
Most sales occur in less than 24 hours
Perhaps one of the most distinctive features of Cyber Monday is the ephemeral nature of its deals, especially compared to Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Most of the Cyber Monday deals end that day.
Cyber Monday also has more "instant" deals, such as Amazon's lightning discounts. Whether shopping on a laptop, mobile phone or tablet device, consumers are often glued to their screens as merchants offer deals for short periods of time and competition for buyers is fierce.
Online sales are the hottest on Cyber Monday
Cyber Monday is the largest online shopping day of the year, with sales of US$3.45 billion last year, an increase of more than 12% over the same period last year. Among them, mobile shopping (that is, shopping using mobile devices) has played a lot of roles. Mobile shopping accounts for 47% of visits to retail websites and 31% of sales.
>Different stores will shine
Black Friday is usually dominated by Best Buy Retailers such as Buy, Kohl's, Target, and others are starring, and on Cyber Monday, what people will see is that some of the lesser-known merchants are more attractive to consumers. Stores like Crocs and Levi's have provided real discounts. So don't be surprised if you find some unexpected bargains.
Fashionistas love Cyber Monday more
Just like the Olympic season, each shopping festival has different shopping events. While Thanksgiving and Black Friday are better days for electronics, Cyber Monday is reflected in other items. There are great deals on clothes and shoes, and in many cases, retailers are offering unsold Black Friday deals to try again.
Cyber Monday beauty products are often overlooked, but they're actually great. Or buy new kitchen items. It is worth mentioning that on Cyber Monday, you can also book unexpected hotel deals.

"And customers looking for discounts are getting better at using their smartphones to quickly complete transactions."
