Mr. Doug Hirano, Executive Director of the Asia Pacific Community Advancement Association, recently received the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust Scholarship. Mr. Hirano is one of five nonprofit leaders in Maricopa County to receive this honor. This scholarship allows winning nonprofit leaders to take a break from their jobs and participate in a customized professional development program to strengthen skills and explore new areas of knowledge that can be applied to the organizations they serve.

"I am honored to be selected for this scholarship," said Mr. Hirano, President of the Asia Pacific Community Initiative. "Working in a small non-profit organization can sometimes be quite challenging, and this scholarship provides an excellent opportunity to explore new directions for the future of the Asia Pacific Community Initiative." Mr. Hirano will use the scholarship to travel to Cambodia for three weeks as a health education volunteer, participate in Stanford University's Leadership Academy short course, and visit outstanding Asian American health organizations elsewhere in the United States.

> Judy Jolley Mohraz, executive director of the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, said: "The time and resources provided by the Piper Scholarship can bring about multi-faceted transformation for experienced and dynamic leaders who are stretched thin. The Piper Trust sees this investment in human potential as a valuable way to re-energize leaders and inspire new ideas."
