Tao Shiyin is a girl with excellent academic performance and a wide range of interests. Last year, her family moved from Dallas to North Scottsdale. Before that, she had been studying painting for many years under the guidance of professional art teachers. She had a good sketch foundation and basic color painting skills. In order to improve herself more effectively, her parents asked her to find a suitable art teacher so that she could improve her art appreciation and painting creation skills as soon as possible. Finally, I contacted Painter Lin Feng in October last year.

From December last year to February this year, Painter Lin Feng specially designed several different styles of painting learning and art creation courses for her based on her foundation and personal interests. Tao Shiyin's parents were not hard-working, and they drove more than an hour one way from Scottsdale in the north to Chandler in the south to send her to Raymond Lam's studio to study. At the end of last year, Tao Shiyin still found time on the weekends to participate in science competitions and the SAT exam, and achieved a score of nearly 2,300. After just 3 months of intensive study once a week, she successfully completed several art creations of different materials and styles.

"Eternal Memory" is a work created by Tao Shiyin for the Patriotic competition, which depicts characters in profound and touching details. In the picture, a mother (soldier) took her daughter to the Vietnam Soldiers Monument and presented a commemorative flower basket to the martyrs. The mother searched for her father (her daughter’s grandfather) among the countless martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, and told her daughter the stories of the heroes with tears in her eyes. The daughter stared at her grandfather’s name, and her young and slender hands touched the monument of the heroes affectionately. . .

At the award ceremony, the judges expressed that this work strongly evoked everyone’s memories of the Vietnam War and the deep remembrance of the dead and missing compatriots. The color and composition of the picture not only created an atmosphere of sadness and mourning, but also was full of strength and perseverance. The judges told Tao Shiyin with great regret that because the badge on her mother's right arm was incorrectly drawn, she was disqualified from receiving a higher award.
