Maricopa County detectives said they arrested 12 Mexican citizens who smuggled into the country last Thursday night, two of whom are believed to be the leaders of the smuggling group. During the pursuit, 10 illegal immigrants tried to escape on foot into the desert and were eventually caught. The suspects are all from Mexico and admitted to entering the country illegally. They told agents they paid smugglers between US$1,700 and US$4,000 to cross the border near Nogalas and into the United States to find work in New York, Texas, Colorado and Minnesota.
