KSAZ-TV host apologized for live broadcast of man's suicide scene At noon on September 28, Fox 10 News used a helicopter to take aerial footage of Fengcheng police chasing a suspect. The man stopped his car 80 miles from the California border, ran into the desert, put a handgun to his head and shot himself. KSAZ-TV's video did not edit the suicide scene as usual, but was synchronized with the news program. Fengcheng police spokesman Sergeant Tommy Thompson said the man being chased allegedly threatened a couple with a gun outside a Phoenix restaurant that morning and stole their car. Police exchanged shots with the man several times during the pursuit, which then led to a chase on Interstate 10. Unexpectedly, the man suddenly got out of the car and committed suicide and died on the spot. Fox 10 News host Sheldon Smith later apologized to viewers who watched the live show, saying that similar incidents should not be broadcast live on television.
