(Xie Chengyan) Report)
At 6 pm on April 8th, the Arizona Diamondback baseball team kicked off its first home game in 2011 at the stadium in downtown Phoenix. This is a big event for Phoenix baseball fans. The roaring fighter planes and gorgeous fireworks in the sky decorated the night like a grand festival. Diamondback also lived up to the expectations of the fans, winning the first game 13-2. Of course, this day is also related to us Chinese, because brothers and sisters from the Taiwanese charity organization Tzu Chi are also among baseball fans. This day was also a great success for Tzu Chi in raising funds for the earthquake in Japan. A few days ago, the Tzu Chi Phoenix Liaison Office contacted the head of the Diamondback baseball team and prepared to work with them on a charity fundraising event. The other party was very happy. Among the tens of millions of charitable funds raised by the Diamondback team every year, there are very few cooperation with Asians, so the intention to cooperate in this charity event was quickly implemented. April 8 is the first home game in 2011. The team said there will be a large number of spectators and it is a very good opportunity for Tzu Chi to promote charity. The Tzu Chi Phoenix Liaison Office also responded quickly and planned a 50/50 event plan, in which Tzu Chi sold raffle tickets at the game site, with half of the proceeds going to the team and half donated by Tzu Chi to the disaster-stricken areas in Japan. If the team wins the game, the ticket purchaser not only receives raffle prizes, but also gets back the cash used to purchase the tickets. The lottery ticket purchase went very smoothly. The competition has not officially started yet, and all the lottery tickets in the hands of some senior brothers have been sold out. The competition officially started, and the organizer broadcast the news about Tzu Chi’s fundraising efforts to donate to the earthquake in Japan on the big screen. Many fans took the initiative to approach Tzu Chi’s sales site and asked to buy raffle tickets. All the raffle tickets were sold out around 8 o'clock. Many philanthropists couldn't buy the raffle tickets, so they just put their money in the donation box. Tzu Chi volunteers returned home in triumph at around 8 o'clock and raised a total of $2,700 that night. The activity to raise funds for Japan is still in progress. Currently, a Chinese eminent person has donated a 2.56-carat diamond (F – VVS1-square with GIA certificate.) to Tzu Chi. The charity sale is planned to raise US$35,000.
