>Covance closes Chandler drug laboratory (Alberta Times) International drug development company Covance announced last Wednesday that it will close its base in Chandler. Covance, headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, spent $150 million to set up a laboratory in Chandler in 2009. While the company's net income grew 5.7% in the first quarter of 2012, Covance said closing the Chandler lab will help save $20 million annually. Chandler Labs opened in March 2009 and has dozens of employees. There have been protests over the use of animal testing. Covance had planned to build a 27-acre base near Chandler Airport with a construction area of more than 280,000 square feet and could accommodate 2,000 jobs. It's a pity that the plan can't keep up with the changes.
