In recognition of contributions to education reform and industrial innovation under globalization

On March 30, Central University will also award Dr. Michael, President of Arizona State University (ASU) in the United States. Crow and Industrial Technology Research Institute Chairman Cai Qingyan, honorary doctors, commended the two for exerting great social influence in education reform and industrial innovation respectively under the rapid changes of globalization, creating new models and setting learning standards for the next generation. In recent years, Central University has successively awarded honorary doctorates to Delta Electronics founder Zheng Chonghua and former Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu from the School of Earth Sciences. This year, two more benchmark figures have been awarded, showing the cross-border and cross-field vision of CUHK in the pursuit of humanistic care and environmental sustainability, and the respect and recognition of outstanding contributors

Michael M. Crow Honorary Doctorate Michael M. Crow, the founder of "New American University" The president has served as the president of ASU for ten years since 2002. He has led the transformation of ASU and made the university one of the leading research universities among American urban universities. He has directly participated in the economic, social and cultural vitality of the region, exerted great social influence, and successfully created a model of "New American University". In 2009, Michael M. was selected as one of the ten best university presidents in the United States by TIME magazine. President Crow promotes school affairs with an "open and inclusive" attitude. The school's research funding in 2012 was approximately US$385 million, three times that of 10 years ago. He advocated inclusive enrollment, reducing the first-year dropout rate to 10%, and increasing the graduation rate of college students to 75% to 80%. He also promoted online and distance teaching to attract more students. At least one department in each college has become an academic leader in the United States, ranking among the top 5% to 10% in the United States. He actively promotes ASU to become a global cross-disciplinary research center by 2020, and also takes a leading position in academic research in the fields of social sciences, arts and humanities. He also forgets to strengthen cooperation with local and national non-profit groups, as well as government departments and private enterprises to expand the university's influence on society. He spent ten years transforming ASU, "adhering to its vision and not being afraid of challenges", to become an innovative and reforming school, providing a model for learning when domestic universities are facing transformation.

Honorary Dr. Tsai Ching-yen, a pioneer in weather forecasting and industrial innovation. Chairman of the Institute of Industrial Technology, Tsai Ching-yen, holds a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences from the University of Utah. After returning to China, he taught at National Taiwan University for fifteen years. Later, he moved from academia to the public sector, serving as director of the Central Meteorological Administration, director of the Civil Aviation Administration, deputy chairman of the National Science Council, political affairs committee member of the Executive Yuan and deputy convener of the Science and Technology Advisory Group, and national policy adviser to the Presidential Office. He is a science and technology policy promoter that the government relies on. Cai Qingyan has been studying in the field of atmospheric science for nearly 30 years. Early weather forecasts had high prediction errors due to the lack of advanced technology. He introduced numerical weather forecasting systems, laying the foundation for the accuracy and modernization of today's weather forecasts. In addition, he actively cultivated talents and led his team to the United States to learn the latest forecasting technology. Every time a typhoon hits, the Central Meteorological Administration is able to issue early warnings, which is attributed to its foresight in cultivating talents and introducing the latest technology. When global industrial sectors are undergoing drastic shifts, Tsai Ching-yen has an insight into the current status of industrial development and future transformation opportunities, and advocates that Taiwan must move towards an "innovative economic system" and continue to innovate. During his tenure as the chairman of ITRI, he led ITRI to repeatedly win impressive results in the Top 100 U.S. Technology R&D Awards and the Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award with innovative technologies. He also established an innovation system that was praised by even the White House Science and Technology Advisory Committee, and actively implemented its mission of creating value for industry. In addition, we urge Taiwanese society to reshape the entrepreneurial culture, leverage the locomotive effect of new ventures to drive industrial structural transformation, encourage colleagues to start businesses to support more outstanding entrepreneurs, transform forward-looking technologies into new startups, drive industrial momentum and development, and find new outlets for innovation and entrepreneurship for Taiwanese young people and industries. He is also committed to the development of energy conservation, carbon reduction and renewable energy, building an industrial chain with forward-looking technology, and hopes that Taiwan will enter the global stage in the green energy industry. In addition, he will promote bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and Japan in the long term, exert international influence, and gain widespread response and attention from all walks of life in Japan. He has also contributed to the substantive connotation of the "Special Partnership" between Taiwan and Japan in the "Taiwan-Japan-China-New Golden Triangle", mediating exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and Japan enterprises and signing memorandums and other important milestones, opening up new paths for the industry and making extraordinary contributions. Tsai Ching-yen has been cultivating Taiwan's high technology and atmospheric sciences for a long time and encouraged innovation and entrepreneurship. He has devoted his life to pursuing the progress of the country and society, and has made great contributions to the sustainability of Taiwan's industry and environment. He is truly a model for the new generation.
