Topic: Developing Standards-based and/Content-Rich Curricular Themes for Chinese Culture Learners Lecturer: Dr. Shuhan Wang, University of Maryland Deputy Director of the National Foreign Language Center (NFLC). Date: Sunday, December 4, 2011 Time: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Location: Arizona State University Tempe Campus, MU, Turquoise Room 220 In this teacher training, Professor Wang will first discuss a conceptual framework that adopts standards, culture, and content. She will share her thoughts on how to translate into the 5Cs of Curriculum and Instruction. Attendees will have the opportunity to go through the steps to implement these extracurricular themes. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to explain what a standards-based and culturally/content-rich extracurricular topic is, identify the essential elements of such a topic for Chinese language learners, and go through these steps to develop other curriculum topics. This event is hosted by the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University and is free and open to the public. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
