Tour bus ran off Route 93, killing 1 and injuring 20. A tourist bus accident occurred late at night on the 19th. A tourist bus carrying 48 Australian tourists was returning to Las Vegas from the Grand Canyon when it lost control and ran off the road on the highway near the famous Hoover Dam. The driver died on the spot and at least 20 passengers were injured. 15 of them were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. Six seriously injured people were sent to the University of Southern Nevada Medical Center for emergency treatment by helicopter. The state Department of Public Safety stated that the accident occurred at about 7:50 pm. The tour bus was traveling north on Highway 93 near the Hoover Dam, about 64 kilometers southeast of Las Vegas. The 52-year-old driver Ronnie Sparks suffered a heart attack and the bus lost control and ran off the road. It first ran up a hill and slid 210 meters on the uneven ground before stopping. The front of the bus was damaged, but the rest of the bus was undamaged. A spokesman for the University of Southern Nevada Medical Center in Las Vegas said that most of the injured were over 50 years old, and the six seriously injured people mainly suffered fractures or abrasions, which were not life-threatening. Tony Fiorini, president of Silver State Trailways, a tour bus company headquartered in California, said the driver, Ronnie Sparks, probably suffered a heart attack and caused the accident. "Fortunately, no one else was seriously injured." This is the third fatal crash in the area in recent years. In January 2009, a tour bus accident occurred at almost the same location, killing seven Chinese tourists who were on their way back to Las Vegas after visiting the Grand Canyon.
