In order to introduce Chinese culture to the local American people, promote Chinese language teaching, and increase the visibility of the Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona (Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona), the Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona (Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona) is actively preparing for the first Chinese Culture Festival in Tucson together with the university and the community. The activities of this cultural festival are rich in content and diverse in form, striving to meet the needs of the American people for a multi-faceted understanding of Chinese culture. The first Asian University Confucius Institute Chinese Culture Festival will grandly kick off with the Chinese Health Day at Tucson City Park on September 22. Activities in the coming week include a series of lectures on Chinese culture, covering Chinese Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi, Confucian ritual music and folk music, Chinese films and directors, and Chinese archeology. We will also hold Chinese poetry lectures and Mid-Autumn Festival poetry concerts, as well as a city-wide Chinese language competition for college, middle school and primary school students on Chinese Language Day. On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 30, the Confucius Institute at Asia University will present a Mid-Autumn Party with a rich Chinese style together with local musicians and students in the United States to bring this cultural festival to a successful conclusion. This Chinese Culture Festival has received widespread support from all walks of life and the school attaches great importance to it. Colleges and departments at the University of Arizona that directly assist the Confucius Institute at Asia University in organizing cultural festivals include the School of Humanities, the Department of East Asia, the Poetry Center, the School of Music, the School of Public Health, the Center for Disease Prevention and Health Care, the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Department of Anthropology. More than a dozen social groups, including the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center, the Tucson Huasheng Chorus, the Tucson Chinese Dance Team, the Tucson Chinese Tai Chi Team, the Tucson Chinese Martial Arts Team, and schools of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, have also joined and participated in the preparations for the cultural festival; the relevant municipal management departments have specially opened park venues for the opening ceremony of our Chinese Cultural Festival and provided reduced-price zoo tickets to attract families and citizens of all age groups to participate. Local professional and amateur actors are rehearsing intensively. Various school districts and schools are actively signing up to participate in the Chinese Language Day competition. The Chinese Consulate will send people from Los Angeles to attend the cultural festival. The mayor of Tucson and the leaders of the University of Arizona will attend China Health Day (September 22) and give speeches at the opening ceremony of the Chinese Culture Festival on that day. All walks of life will attend the cultural festival's activities over a week. During the cultural festival, the Confucius Institute at Asia University will also invite university and Tucson city leaders and celebrities to visit the Confucius Institute at Asia University and discuss the Confucius Institute’s recent and long-term development plans. Local radio stations and newspapers interviewed the director of the Confucius Institute and students of the Confucius Institute about the first Chinese Culture Festival and will continue to report to the public. The Online Confucius Institute at the Beijing headquarters of Hanban has negotiated with the Confucius Institute at Asia University to promote the Online Confucius Institute through the first Chinese Culture Festival and encourage students to register for the Online Confucius Institute. The Online Confucius Institute will also open a column to introduce and report on the first Tucson Chinese Culture Festival organized by the Confucius Institute at Asia University. It is expected that the number of people directly participating in this Chinese Culture Festival will reach 4,000. Countless Americans will learn about the Tucson Chinese Cultural Festival through newspapers, television and multimedia. The Confucius Institute at Asia University looks forward to establishing consensus and cooperation with more university departments, government agencies, and social groups on the occasion of the Chinese Culture Festival, so as to create a good mass foundation and social environment for the further development of local Chinese language and culture teaching.
