The Overseas Chinese and Overseas Chinese Community in Arizona celebrates the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival on September 16th. The event is ready (picture). In order to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, preparations for a series of National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations in Arizona are underway in an orderly manner. The National Day Preparatory Committee recently held a briefing on the progress of the preparatory work division and arrangement of a series of activities at the Chinese Cultural Center in Phoenix. The 2012 National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival series of activities will consist of three parts: the China Yunnan Talent Recruitment Fair, the National Day Reception, and the Mid-Autumn Festival Dance. For decades, various overseas Chinese associations and student and scholar organizations in the greater Phoenix area have jointly held a series of National Day celebrations every year. The organizing committee has extensively invited celebrities from the overseas Chinese community, community leaders, outstanding figures from all walks of life, friends from the American political and business circles, and officials from the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles to participate in various celebration activities. This year, Bian Lixin, Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, and Overseas Chinese Affairs Officer Consul Bai Dongshi and Education Consul Xu Cuiying will come to attend the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day activities of the overseas Chinese academic community and deliver a speech at the conference. It is particularly worth mentioning that the Yunnan Provincial Government delegation will also fly to Phoenix on the same day to hold a talent recruitment fair and participate in National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival activities. The series of activities is to fully demonstrate the united and progressive style of the Chinese community in the Phoenix area, showcase China's progress and prosperity, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States. The location of this year's event ceremony is the same as in previous years, held at Arizona State University in the ASU MU Ballroom. The following is the specific event program: Yunnan Provincial Talent Recruitment Fair: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM National Day Reception: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles and the American Overseas Chinese Newspaper provide photo exhibitions. Mid-Autumn Festival Social Dance: 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM The annual National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival series of activities are the highest-level major events in the Phoenix Chinese community and the most extensive exposure to mainstream society. What started as a gathering of only a few people at a local Chinese restaurant has grown to include thousands of attendees, including elites from all walks of life including local politics, business, overseas Chinese, academia, medicine, and science. Yang Wentian, director of the China Overseas Friendship Association, reported the congratulations and expectations of various overseas Chinese organizations in China for the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival activities in Phoenix and presided over the preparatory meeting. Wu Ning, the financial director of Huazhong, gave a brief explanation of the financial situation, and overseas Chinese leaders Wu Liangzu and Xu Qiang provided guiding suggestions on the preparatory work. Chief program planners Chen Zhigang and Gu Yayu solicited everyone’s ideas on the arrangement of cultural and artistic programs. Wang Shengjun, president of the Chinese Association of Alberta and executive chairman of the event, Wang Dexuan, president of the ASU Chinese Student Association, Qiu Xiyuan, president of the AU Chinese Student Association, and Lei Hong, a Chinese representative from Tucson, and other representatives from all walks of life said that with the increasing influence of China in the world and the increasingly frequent personnel exchanges between China and the United States, major activities related to China and the overseas Chinese community have also received increasing attention in Phoenix.
