China News Service, Manila, October 11 (Reporter Zhang Ming) The Philippine Coast Guard claimed on the 11th that nine Filipino fishermen "missed" in the waters south of Huangyan Island on October 1.

The Philippine News Agency, sponsored by the Philippine government, quoted the Coast Guard as saying that the nine missing fishermen all went fishing on the "Jericho" fishing boat. The Philippine Coast Guard did not receive reports of missing fishing boats and fishermen until October 10.

The report claimed that it is still unclear what caused these fishermen to "disappear".

A press release issued by the Philippine Coast Guard that day stated that Philippine Coast Guard personnel stationed in Masinloc Town, Zambales Province are continuing to search for the whereabouts of missing fishermen in four coastal towns in the province, including Candelaria, Palauegue, Iba and Cabangan, and the identities of the nine people have been verified.

The Philippine Coast Guard claimed that these fishermen were "fishing on Scarborough Shoal" on fishing boats, but they were unable to return. The Philippine Coast Guard has asked coastal towns and communities in Zambales Province to pay attention to the whereabouts of these nine people and report them immediately if found.
