Over the years, Chinese people in Alberta have been drafted into the army and have sacrificed their youth, blood and lives to protect their country and country. During World War I, two Chinese people in Alberta were recruited as soldiers, one was HONG HAM, and the other was DEAHONG TOY, Mr. Guan Chongqiong. These two are responsible for food service in the Army. After retiring from the army, Mr. Kwan Chongqiong opened a warehouse and Toy’s Shengrila restaurant in Phoenix, known as "Chongqiong House". It was one of the earliest local restaurants opened by Chinese in Phoenix. Mr. Guan loves overseas Chinese communities and promotes overseas Chinese affairs. He is one of the earliest founders of the Overseas Chinese Federation in Feinie. In 1968, he was elected as the chairman of the first Overseas Chinese Federation. During the Second World War, 79 Chinese people from Alberta were drafted into the army to serve the United States. They participated in the navy, army, air force and special forces, and bravely went to the front line and fought bloody battles. Among them, there were four Chinese who served in the 14th Air Flying Tigers, a mixed group of the Chinese and American Air Forces, including Deng Tongzhen, HARRY ONG, DOUGLAS DONG, GRAY TOY, etc. They went to China to participate in the Anti-Japanese War, and worked with the Chinese military and civilians to directly fight against the Japanese imperialism that invaded the motherland. During World War II, five Chinese-American soldiers died for their country while heroically killing the enemy, three of whom were in the Air Force. The first son of the Deng family to sacrifice heroically was EDWAR YINONG, an Air Force warrior who was killed in an air battle in the Philippines theater on May 26, 1945. Four brothers from the Deng family, including Deng Yuedian, went into battle to kill the enemy. Mr. Deng Yuetian had completed 29 missions in August 1944. He could return to China after the 30th mission. However, during the last bombing of Germany, the plane was hit and caught fire. He subsequently became a prisoner of war. He was the only Chinese prisoner of war in Alberta during World War II. He was later rescued by the British army. In 1945, he returned to the United States heroically. I have checked that in the history of Chinese military service, there are more than 40 officers and soldiers named Deng, accounting for a quarter of the total. Among the six martyrs, three are descendants of the Deng family.
During the Second World War, four brothers from the Deng family, including Deng Yuetian, went to battle to kill the enemy.
After the war, the Chinese retired from the army and returned to Feini. Mr. Guan Weili (son of Guan Chongqiong), who later became a colonel, taught military courses to students in many middle schools. Many veterans serve as leaders in various organizations of overseas Chinese communities. For example, Mr. Deng Yueyin served as the Overseas Chinese Affairs Advisor of the National Government, and Mr. Deng Tongzhen served as the chairman of the Federation of Overseas Chinese.
Colonel Wei-Li Kwan, the highest-ranking Chinese soldier
When the Korean War broke out in 1950, another 23 Chinese men from Alberta joined the army, some of whom were veterans of World War II and donned battle armor. There were also Chinese participants in all branches of the military, including land, sea and air. Until the armistice in 1955, some soldiers retired and returned to Feini, while others still served in the army. There are a number of successful veterans among the veterans. Among them, Mr. Deng Daming embarked on the road to politics. He served as the deputy mayor of PEORIA City for 6 years and the mayor for 6 years. He is the son of the Deng family who has served in public office for the longest time among local Chinese. Mr. Deng Panlin founded FOODRAMA, the largest "super mall" in the state at that time. There are also many successful restaurant owners, one of the well-known ones is Mr. Tim Kuang, who is also a writer for the Alberta Times. Regarding the overseas Chinese community, Mr. Yu Wensu (WILLTEM.YEE) retired from the warehouse business at the age of 48 and turned to real estate investment. He devoted a lot of time and energy to serving the Senior Citizens Association and the construction of the Corning Building. He was once elected as the chairman of the "Overseas Chinese Federation". From 1961 to 1975, when the Vietnam War began, 22 Chinese people in Alberta were recruited to serve, many of whom were engaged in civilian and technical jobs. There is also a female officer CAROLEEN CHANG LRLBERISON serving at the terminal. During the Vietnam War, a Chinese named HERBERT WONG donated firepower for the country. Unfortunately, there is still no information about his specific deeds. One of the veterans from the Vietnam War is Mr. Yu Ziren. He has worked diligently in the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese for many years, serving as its treasurer for many years. In 2005, he was elected as the chairman of the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and became the vice president of the National Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. In the subsequent Middle East wars, the Gulf War and the Iraq War, Chinese people from Alberta continued to be recruited as soldiers. In 1950, 44 Chinese veterans from Alberta formed the "Chinese American Veterans Association". Later, because Mr. Deng Xinping was a veteran of World War II and was highly respected, in order to commemorate his death, the name was changed to the "Deng Xinping Veterans Association", and there were also three Westerners among them. Over the years, nearly 200 Filipino Chinese have served in the military. However, due to constant illness and death, most of the remaining ones are now elderly. Every year on National Day, when the veterans enter the venue carrying guns and protecting the flag, the venue is solemn and solemn. On the American flag, there is the blood-stained image of the Chinese soldiers in Alberta. It is they who make us proud and continue to move forward. The book "Deng Xinping Veterans Association" was written by Mr. KC TANG in 1997. The three brothers of KC TANG's family also served in the military. He was the commander of the Korean War Flying Brigade and engaged in civilian work. This book of more than 200 pages records many touching and touching stories. With a respectful heart, I have excerpted some of the characters and stories related to our overseas Chinese community to tell you about those years.
