Extra Child Tax Credit, Illegal Immigrant Tax Refund of 7.4 billion Sessions, the senior Republican member of the Senate Budget Committee, pointed out that due to loopholes in the federal tax law, illegal immigrants who are not allowed to work and do not pay taxes can also file income taxes to claim the "Additional Child Tax Credit" and turn the tax credit into a "tax refund cash" to receive (the average check is about 1,800 yuan). It is estimated that illegal immigrants may take away approximately 7.4 billion yuan this year. According to the tax law, even if the income is not subject to income tax declaration, a declaration can still be made for the purpose of tax refund (recovery of withheld tax). Therefore, illegal immigrants in the United States can also file income tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If they do not have a social security number, the IRS will give them an "Individual Taxpayer Identification Number" (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number). The tax law does not prohibit them from applying for the "additional child tax credit." Since 1998, each child in a family under the age of 17 can bring a child tax credit of 1,000 yuan to their parents. The tax credit is directly deducted from the tax. It is an important provincial tax item. But for some families with lower incomes, the "child tax credit" only helps them reduce their taxes to zero, and does not use the entire tax credit. The "Additional Child Tax Credit" makes up for this shortfall and helps them get their unused tax credit: the IRS pays this part of the tax credit in cash, just like a tax refund. Sessions' office found that the total amount paid by the IRS for the Additional Child Tax Credit has more than quadrupled what it was four years ago and has continued to increase over the past decade. His assistant emphasized that this issue is serious and should be taken seriously, declaring: "This is another sign that Washington is out of touch with reality." Earlier this year, Sessions supported a bill to prohibit illegal immigrants from applying for the "extra child tax credit," but the bill was blocked by Senate Democratic leader Reid and was not sent to the floor for discussion. Reade claimed at the time that the bill was targeted and disadvantageous to low-income Hispanic families.
