7 drug backpackers intercepted in Yuma (Alberta Times) On Tuesday morning, U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a group of drug smugglers in Yuma who were smuggling drugs in backpacks. The seven men were crossing the desert in southwestern Arizona when they were discovered by a Walden Station patrol sentry. Each of them had a backpack containing about 245 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $120,000. Seven suspects admitted to smuggling marijuana and were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
