500 universities join forces to become the world's leading university. About 500 public universities affiliated with the Association of Public and Land Universities (APLU) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) jointly issued a statement on the 2nd, committing to from now to 2025, while maintaining high-quality education, awarding an additional 3.8 million bachelor's degrees and curbing the cost of college students. This ambitious move is designed to help the United States regain its position as the world's leader in university education. The focus of the statement on the 2nd was to increase graduation rates, which is an old problem in American higher education. The United States has one of the highest college enrollment rates in the world, but more than one-third of college students do not earn a degree. In terms of the proportion of adults with a degree, the United States fell from first to 14th in the world. The statement said that each university will contact students who have attended the school but did not receive any degree; while increasing the degree-granting rate, never reduce the quality of education; adhere to the principle of diversifying the student composition; shorten the average time for students to obtain a degree; curb college expenses; cooperate with primary and secondary schools and community colleges, especially in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and other urgently needed curriculum education. The statement also said that to help local, state and national economic development, many public universities will increase the number of graduates majoring in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. These universities currently graduate just over 1 million college students each year. At this rate, they will award a total of about 14.6 million college degrees by 2025.
