Kiplinger, a personal finance website, pointed out that when the price of a new car is compared with the cost of insurance, maintenance and other expenses within five years, the most cost-effective car is Nissan Motor Company's Versa S sedan. As oil prices rise, many consumers will consider whether a car is fuel-efficient before buying a car. In addition to gas costs, Kiplinger further evaluated the insurance, maintenance and other costs after purchasing a new car, and compiled a ranking of the 10 most cost-effective and money-saving cars based on the five-year purchase period. Nissan's Versa S sedan ranks first on the list. The total estimated gas expenses over the five years after buying the car are US$9,048. The total insurance costs over the five years are about US$5,134. The total expenses of consumers over the five years after buying the car are about US$27,135. Hyundai Motor Company's Accent GLS sedan ranked second, with the estimated five-year cost of buying the car being about $27,895. Ford's Fiesta S ranked third, with the estimated cost of buying the car over five years being approximately $28,524. Ranked 4th to 10th are: Toyota Yaris L 2-door sedan (costs about $29,153 over 5 years), Kia Soul sedan (costs about $29,190 over 5 years), Kia Rio LX sedan (costs about $29,345 over five years), Scion's 2-door IQ sedan (costs about $29,594 over five years), Honda Insight sedan (costs about $29,786 over five years), Mazda's Mazda2 Sport sedan (costs about $30,173 over five years), and Honda Fit sedan (costs about $30,411 over five years).
