> 40 students in Chicago were arrested for buying fake driver's licenses from China [reported by Xuming compiled by Qiaobao on July 22] Forty middle school and college students in the Chicago area were arrested by local police for purchasing fake driver's licenses from China through the Internet. According to the Associated Press, Cook County Sheriff Dart in Illinois said on the 22nd that the 40 students were arrested in the past few weeks on charges of misconduct. Police found the students after they seized 1,700 fake driver's licenses from China at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport earlier this year. Dart revealed that these driver's licenses were hidden in boxes of jewelry, toys and webcams that were shipped to many places in Chicago. Each student paid $75 to $100, and the fake driver's licenses were almost as fake as real ones. The arrested students were aged between 17 and 20 years old. Because they did not change their names, addresses, birthdays, etc., they were easily traced by the police. Some people even purchase fake out-of-state driver's licenses. The students were originally charged with felonies, but Dart said they ended up being charged with misconduct for trying to obtain a fake driver's license and were fined 25 hours of community service and some were fined. The police said that in fact, this is only the minimum price they pay. They may also face identity theft and loss of family property for disclosing personal information. Dart said some kids give up everything just because they want to get drunk on fake documents. Dart said the number of fake driver's licenses produced in China has increased rapidly in the past few months and is expected to continue to increase because it is difficult to make websites operate responsibly, and it is impossible to shut down websites located overseas.
