In 2020, the epidemic caused by the new coronavirus has been fierce. It started in China at the beginning of the year and by mid-to-late March, it had spread widely in Europe and the United States, causing people all over the world to suffer!
In view of the epidemic situation, in February, the Chinese Restaurant Association of Alberta, like many local Chinese and overseas Chinese groups, launched a donation activity for the compatriots affected by the disaster in the motherland. The charity event received positive response from the majority of members of the association and all walks of life. Thanks to the efforts of the Chinese Restaurant Association and the volunteer team, the first batch of medical supplies has been shipped to the Xiangyang Emergency Center in Hubei Province on a people-to-people basis, expressing the concern and support of overseas Chinese for our compatriots in the motherland.
However, due to the rapid deterioration of the epidemic situation in recent days, the new coronavirus is quite ferocious. By mid-March, the epidemic had spread rapidly in the United States, causing all walks of life to suffer huge losses! Arizona is no exception. Currently, all restaurants will no longer set up dine-in restaurants starting from March 20 to comply with the new ban issued by the state government to prevent and control the spread of the new coronavirus. Since they can only rely on takeout to maintain their business, and they don't know when the lockdown will be lifted, the majority of Chinese restaurant association members are worried, and their business has plummeted. In view of this, during this extraordinary period, the Alberta Chinese Restaurant Association, after reviewing the situation and discussing the situation, made the following decision:
1. The cost of the epidemic prevention materials shipped to Xiangyang, Hubei Province will be borne entirely by the Alberta Chinese Restaurant Association. 2. Due to the improvement of the epidemic situation in China and the worsening of the local epidemic situation, the funds raised will no longer be donated overseas, but will be used for self-rescue. We have now decided to return every donation made by members, social groups and philanthropists to help compensate for the losses caused by the epidemic, so that everyone can tide over the difficulties. Refund checks will be mailed shortly.
3. The Chinese Restaurant Association of Alberta would like to make a public explanation to the donors and sincerely thank its members and overseas Chinese for their strong support! Please take care of yourself and let’s get through this together!
