Taiwan authorities prohibit medical institutions from screening the gender of unborn babies, but law enforcement has not been implemented, resulting in frequent gender screening practices. In addition, because many families are affected by the "son preference" consciousness, pregnant women actively request hospitals to conduct gender screening and abortion. Therefore, it is difficult to find illegal evidence and punish the hospital. Chen Xinfu, chairman of the Taiwan Reproductive Medicine Society, said that in the past, 9.9 out of 10 families in Taiwan wanted a boy, but now at most 7 want a boy. He called on society to further change its mindset to maintain a balanced gender ratio in the population.
