Sun Yat-sen's great-grandson Sun Guosheng introduced some new findings in the study of Soong Ching Ling's family letters to experts from many countries in Shanghai on the 30th. He briefly introduced two letters from Soong Ching Ling's family in English that were newly discovered in 2009 when sorting out family information. Their contents objectively reflected Soong Ching Ling's views on the Second World War and the situation at home and abroad. The contents of these two letters home are disclosed to the international academic community for the first time.
On the 30th, at the "Song Qingling and Her Era" international academic symposium held in Shanghai, Sun Guosheng read aloud some Chinese translations of two letters from home.
These two letters home are letters from Soong Ching Ling to Sun Zhiqiang (grandson of Sun Yat-sen) in the 1940s. One letter was written on April 19, 1941, when Sun Zhiqiang graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and Soong Ching Ling sent a congratulatory letter from Hong Kong. The letter specifically mentioned Soong Ching Ling's views on the nature of World War II.
The second family seal was written on July 5, 1942. In her letter, Soong Ching Ling described in detail her participation in a picnic hosted by General Chennault for the "Flying Tigers" in Chongqing on July 4 of that year. The letter also expressed my longing for Sun Zhiqiang and other descendants of the Sun family who are far away overseas. This family letter became a testimony of the harmonious relationship between Soong Ching Ling and the descendants of the Sun family.
Sun Guosheng said that although he did not know his great-grandmother deeply, the discovery of these two family letters helped him understand his great-grandmother from the perspective of his family, and the translation of these two family letters would also be helpful to academic research.
May 29 this year marks the 30th anniversary of Soong Ching Ling’s death. A number of new discoveries and achievements in Soong Ching Ling’s research from home and abroad were published and distributed domestically. The international academic symposium "Song Ching Ling and Her Era" held in Shanghai attracted nearly 200 researchers from China, Japan, Russia and other countries.
During the conference, the latest research results such as "Selected Letters from Soong Ching Ling to Chen Zhikun and his wife Chen Yan", French painter Gao Chunfang's new work "Rose in the Wind - Remembering the Friendship between My Family and Mrs. Sun Soong Ching Ling", Gao Qing's memoir "Smiling Eyes - My Children's Palace with Soong Ching Ling" were also released for the first time, some of which are in Chinese and English versions.
