More than 400 representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises from both sides of the Taiwan Strait gathered in Taipei on the 27th to discuss how to seize the new opportunities brought by the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) and the launch of the mainland's "Twelfth Five-Year Plan".

The two-day "Cross-Strait Small and Medium Enterprises Forum" is co-sponsored by the Taiwan Small and Medium Enterprises Association, the Mainland Small and Medium Enterprises Association and the Taipei World Trade Center. 150 representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises from 17 provinces and municipalities in mainland China attended the meeting.

Li Zibin, president of the Mainland Small and Medium Enterprises Association, said that this year is the first year of ECFA implementation and also the beginning of Mainland China’s “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”. The positive effects of ECFA have gradually emerged. Cross-Strait trade in goods has increased significantly, service trade has been further opened, cross-Strait personnel, capital and technology flows have accelerated, and cross-Strait cooperation in independent innovation and the creation of independent brands, as well as industrial cooperation, have been strengthened.

He believes that after the signing of the ECFA between the two sides, the exchanges and cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises have entered a new stage, and there is broad room for future development. The mainland has a large market, increasing capital reserves, and abundant human resources, while Taiwanese companies have strong innovation capabilities, rich management experience and experience in exploring international markets. If the two sides cooperate with each other, their competitiveness will soon increase. He hopes that through this forum, the two sides can exchange experience in the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, promote cross-strait economic and trade cooperation and industrial development transformation, and also promote the docking and cooperation of small and medium-sized enterprise service agencies and social groups.

Lin Bingbin, chairman of the Taiwan Small and Medium Enterprises Association, said at the forum that Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises used to mainly explore the European and American markets, but now the mainland is committed to expanding domestic demand and developing consumer products, which will be new opportunities for Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises developed earlier and have a lot of experience and lessons for their mainland counterparts to refer to.

Lin Bingbin expressed the hope that the forum can become a regular platform for cooperation and exchange between small and medium-sized enterprises on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, helping everyone understand the development trends and changes in the cross-strait market, enhance mutual trust, and establish a close network of small and medium-sized enterprises on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Jiang Bingkun, chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, said at the forum that cross-strait cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises is an important part of cross-strait economic and trade cooperation. ECFA provides new opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises. In terms of trade in goods, the early harvest list that has been implemented only accounts for a small part of the trade in goods. The follow-up negotiations between the two sides on the trade in goods have just begun. If the negotiations achieve results, the trade opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will be further increased, and thus the competitiveness will be improved. In the future, both sides of the Taiwan Strait can also expand the opening up of the service industry and expand opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises to enter each other's markets.

In addition to seminar activities, this forum will also be divided into 10 industries such as finance, green energy, machinery and logistics, and organize face-to-face exchanges between enterprises to help them find partners.
