Macau SAR Government Spokesperson Alexis Tam announced on the 4th that the Macau SAR Government will establish a "Macau Economic and Cultural Office" in Taipei to provide comprehensive services for Macau residents in work, study, tourism, business and life in Taiwan.
After many months of in-depth consultations, the SAR government and the Taiwan authorities have reached a consensus on the establishment of comprehensive offices in the two places. The Macao SAR government established the "Macao Economic and Cultural Office" in Taiwan, and the SAR government agreed to change the name of the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Center" in Macao to the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Office".
It is reported that the business functions of the Macao SAR Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan mainly include three aspects: providing services and assistance to Macao residents working, studying, traveling, business and living in Taiwan, as well as document verification and emergency events; promoting exchanges and cooperation between Macao and Taiwan in economic and trade tourism, science and technology and environmental protection, education, medical and health, cultural creativity, academic publishing, professional technology, social welfare and other fields; strengthening Macao and Taiwan's joint fight against crime and mutual judicial assistance cooperation.
> Alex Tam said that the establishment of Macao’s economic and cultural office in Taiwan is a major breakthrough for the SAR government. Cooperation between Macao and Taiwan in the fields of economy, culture, education, medical health and social services will be further deepened, and Macao-Taiwan relations will reach a new level.
> Alex Tam said that the SAR government is actively carrying out preparations for the establishment of the Macao Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan and is expected to be officially operational by the end of this year. The office staff will be 10 to 15 people, who will be recruited from different government departments to form an excellent working team. When necessary, the office will hire an appropriate number of local staff in Taiwan.
It is also understood that after the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Center" is renamed as the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Office", it will continue to serve as a comprehensive office with similar business functions to the Macao Economic and Cultural Office, while retaining the existing business of assisting Macao residents with various relevant procedures required to travel to Taiwan.
> Alex Tam pointed out that Macau currently has more than 4,000 students in Taiwan, and many Macau residents live, travel and do business in Taiwan. Taiwan has nearly 1.3 million tourists to Macau every year. Many Taiwanese businessmen are interested in investing in Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries. In the future, Macau and Taiwan will work more closely together to provide services and assistance to compatriots in both places, better promote the prosperity and development of the two places, and enhance the well-being of the people in Macau and Taiwan.
