On the 4th, Taiwanese actors Zhu Zhiying, Hu Jin, Wei Haimin, Xu Guiying, and Lan Juntian (from left to right) attended the press conference of the stage play "A Dream in the Garden", which was adapted from the novel of the same name by the famous Taiwanese writer Bai Xianyong. The press conference was held at the Xihua Hotel in Taipei City. Xinhua News Agency, Taipei, July 4th (Reporter Fu Shuangqi) Actors from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will jointly perform the stage play "A Dream in the Garden" created by the famous writer Bai Xianyong, and plans to tour 100 performances in 9 mainland cities and Hong Kong starting from December this year. Xu Boyun, administrative director of Taiwan International New Image Cultural and Educational Foundation, said at a press conference held on the 4th that the stage play will be performed in Taipei from July 29 to 31, and then performed at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing from December 14 to 17. It will then tour in Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Qingdao and Hong Kong, with a total of 100 performances. Xu Boyun said that this performance in Taipei will involve four outstanding mainland drama actors, including National Theater actors Yang Qing, Chen Qiang, Ji Yuan, and Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe actor Shen Zhenli. "A Dream in the Garden" was originally a short story by Bai Xianyong, published in 1966, and is considered one of his representative works. Bai Xianyong collaborated with the famous Taiwanese stage director Yang Shipeng to adapt the novel into a script, which was first performed in Taiwan in 1982. It was a sensation in Taiwan at the time. This play combines Peking Opera and Kunqu opera in the form of a modern stage play, combining Western modernist expression techniques with Eastern classical aesthetics, and is an important work in the history of Taiwanese drama. Liu Wenguo, artistic director of the Shanghai Culture, Radio, Film and Television Administration, who co-participated in the mainland performance of "A Dream in the Garden", said that every time "A Dream in the Garden" is performed in a mainland city, he hopes to have outstanding local drama actors participate. This will not only increase the sense of intimacy, but also give actors from both sides of the Taiwan Strait the opportunity to perform on the same stage and learn from each other. He also hopes that more outstanding literary and artistic works from Taiwan will be performed in the mainland to jointly inherit Chinese culture.
