Security has been upgraded after an attempted hijacking incident in Xinjiang. Starting from July 1, the Urumqi Railway Bureau has "required inspection" of passenger luggage. All kinds of knives are not allowed to be carried. The railway department urges passengers not to bring volatile liquids such as nail polish and perfume.

> China Broadcasting Network reported that the Urumqi Railway Bureau "must inspect every baggage carried by passengers". Knives and ceramic knives, including table knives, scissors, large fruit knives and craft knives, are not allowed to be carried. Liquid items such as drinks and cosmetics are best placed in places that are easy to take out and are subject to manual inspection at any time. Volatile liquids such as nail polish and perfume are also best not to be carried. When a passenger was undergoing security check at Urumqi Railway Station, two bottles of varnish in his luggage were confiscated by railway police because they contained flammable ingredients.
