China News Service, February 1 (Xinhua) According to the US "Sing Tao Daily" report, according to a Hill poll, nearly half of registered voters in the United States also support the regularization of the status of children of illegal immigrants, and 73% support those serving in the military becoming citizens. The report quoted The Hill as reporting that both ideas originated from the DREAM Act that was killed by congressional Republicans in 2010. In his State of the Union address last week, President Obama said it was not reasonable to deport illegal immigrants who graduated from college or served in the military. He said, "Give me a law that gives them a chance to win citizenship and I will sign it in a heartbeat."

These issues have also become hot topics in the Republican presidential campaign. Gingrich announced on January 27 that he supports amending the DREAM Act, which would provide children of illegal immigrants serving in the military with a path to regular status. Romney does not support any part of the DREAM Act.

This Hill poll was conducted on January 26, interviewing 1,000 likely voters, with an error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The survey showed that 48% of likely voters said that children brought to the United States by illegal immigrants should be provided with a path to citizenship without being threatened, while only 34% opposed it. Democrats are more likely to accept the idea, with 60% supporting it and 23% opposing it, while Republicans have 46% supporting it and 32% opposing it. Independent voters also agree with the Democratic Party, with 52% saying children should be given a chance, while 33% oppose it.

The country generally supports the idea that people serving in the military can have their status regularized, with 72% of Republicans, 75% of Democrats and 73% of independent voters supporting it.
