U.S. economists have confirmed that the housing market recovery is coming. According to a CNNMoney survey of economists, the U.S. housing market is finally showing signs of recovery after experiencing a long depression period. Based on a series of positive data indicators, nine of the 14 economists surveyed believe that house prices have rebounded or will rebound later this year. On September 25, Standard & Poor's released a report stating that housing prices in major U.S. cities have risen for the third consecutive month, indicating that the U.S. real estate market continues to recover. The S&P/Case-Shiller House Price Index shows that the average house price in 20 major U.S. cities increased by 1.6% month-on-month in July, with house prices in 16 of them also rising year-on-year. In addition, the number of new housing starts and the sales of existing and new homes have both increased. Market analysts pointed out that since the Federal Reserve launched the third round of quantitative easing two weeks ago and continued to purchase mortgage-backed securities, fixed mortgage interest rates have fallen slightly and returned to historical lows, helping to offset the impact of rising prices. The housing market is no longer full of negative news, but is turning positive. For the broader economy, if the upward trend in house prices continues, a reversal of previous declines in the housing market could provide a much-needed boost to the economy. If homeowners start to feel more affluent again, rising home prices could eventually lift consumer spending, and the real estate industry, a major job creator, could also play an important role in economic growth.
