China News Service, March 23. According to the U.S. "World Journal", the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General (Office of Inspector) General) released a research report last week, saying that the green card processing time published by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on its website is inaccurate and does not help immigration applicants. In this regard, the Immigration Bureau updated the inquiry website on the 22nd, striving to make the green card application processing time inquiry more accurate.
A report from the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security last week pointed out that the USCIS processing time for each category of green cards published by each field office through its website is inaccurate. The time displayed is not consistent with the actual processing time required by each field office, and it is completely unable to allow applicants to understand the time required for green card applications.
The report found that since fiscal year 2011, the average time required for green card applications has been more than twice the 120-day time limit established by USCIS. For example, as of May 2017, the average USCIS green card processing time in fiscal year 2017 was 282 days, more than twice the time limit set by USCIS.
In response, USCIS updated the query website on the 22nd. The new website will use a new automatic calculation method to calculate the green card and immigration processing time. This calculation method is still in the testing stage and can currently calculate the processing time for four types of forms: N-400 naturalization application form, I-90 application form for replacement of green card, I-485 application form for green card, and I-751 application form for removal of conditional green card.
USCIS stated that the new website will more accurately reflect the approximate time required for applicants to inquire and process. If the processing time of an application form is much longer than the normal time, the applicant can contact USCIS to inquire. When querying the processing time of the above four types of forms, the new website will use a new automatic calculation method.
>The new algorithm reduces the minimum time unit of the time range to two weeks, while the minimum time unit of the old algorithm is six weeks. The processing time displayed on the new website is calculated from the date USCIS receives the application. The low end of the processing time range is the time it takes for the USCIS to review 50% of the submission, and the high end is the time it takes for 93% of the submission to be reviewed.
