According to CCTV News, at about 2 a.m. on November 22, a crude oil leak occurred in the Sinopec Huangwei Oil Pipeline in Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone. Around 10:30, an explosion occurred during preparations for emergency repairs. The explosion affected some facilities of Qingdao Lidong Chemical Plant. As of 17:40, the accident had killed 35 people and injured 166 people.

After the accident, the Party Central Committee and the State Council attached great importance to it, and Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, State President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, immediately issued important instructions. Shandong Province and relevant parties are required to organize forces to eliminate dangers in a timely manner, do everything possible to search and rescue missing and injured people, identify the cause of the accident, summarize the lessons learned from the accident, implement safety production responsibilities, strengthen safety production measures, and resolutely put an end to such accidents.

Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, issued instructions calling for all-out efforts to search and rescue missing and injured persons, in-depth elimination and control of dangerous sources, and proper follow-up work. Strengthen inspection and supervision and strictly implement safety production responsibilities.

Entrusted by General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, State Councilor Wang Yong has led comrades in charge of relevant departments to rush to the accident site to guide the rescue work and visit the injured.

After the accident, the main responsible comrades of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, relevant departments of the State Council, and the person in charge of Sinopec also rushed to the accident site to guide the rescue and rescue work. At present, the oil pipeline has been closed, all fire points have been extinguished, and various aftermath work is in progress.
