The Overseas Chinese Federation strives to promote Chinese culture - Zhang Zhaohong Zhang Zhaohong Over the years, the Overseas Chinese Federation of Huangcheng has held National Day activities and vigorously promoted Chinese culture through multi-unit program performances and the Miss Chinese beauty pageant, so that the mainstream society can have more knowledge and understanding of us. The first large-scale report on the National Day activities of the Overseas Chinese Federation was the Chinese and English publication "China and Foreign Magazine" from Taiwan. In 1976, the magazine published the following report with pictures and texts under the title "Memory of Chinese Overseas Chinese in Phoenix Celebrating the Bicentennial of the United States": "In Phoenix, the capital of Arizona, there are more than 5,000 overseas Chinese, mostly from Cantonese, more than before Arizona was incorporated into the federal territory. The celebration was organized by a senior overseas Chinese leader who rented the Town House. The Great Hall was used as the venue, and there were more than 3,000 guests present. After the opening ceremony at 2 p.m., the program started one after another, including three episodes of Chinese movies, which were screened after the opening and closing. The costumes on display include the flag costumes worn by the imperial concubines of the Qing Dynasty, with gold inlaid silver and colorful embroidery. Many famous ladies, neatly dressed and making cameo appearances, are graceful and charming. Among them is a women's long dress, which is particularly distinctive. On one side is a Hunan embroidery "Songs and Cranes Prolong Years", and on the other side is Chinese calligraphy. Dozens of the characters "Longevity" are written on the white satin surface. It is eye-catching, novel and touching, and full of ingenuity. It won the admiration and praise of the audience. In addition, there was also a performance of an old-style wedding that was popular half a century ago. The groom is wearing a blue robe, a melon hat and satin shoes, a red knot on the top of the hat, and a giant wind bead on the top. The bride is covered in finery and embroidery, with a square scarf covering her face, and clusters of flowers. She is supported by the "wedding bride" and walks slowly and slowly to the front of the stage, where she worships heaven and earth with the groom and joins the wedding ceremony. The performance is very realistic. The old people nodded and smiled, vaguely remembering the past; the young people felt fresh and interesting, and won the applause of the whole house. A "Sword Dance" was performed, taken from the opera Farewell My Concubine, with a young girl as a guest star. The costumes are gorgeous and the body is light. The bright red embroidered hakama, tight-fitting, narrow sleeves, Baotou, and waist are all the more radiant. During the sword dance, his skills were stretched and his movements were well-timed. With the tempo of the song "Deep Night" played on the record player, the performance was smooth and flawless. The program also includes activities such as "dragon dance" and "beauty pageant", as well as lucky draws. The preparatory meeting was thoughtful and prepared an exquisite and sumptuous Chinese buffet for each guest to avoid being hungry and to have a good time. The delivery fully demonstrated the elegance of our Chinese nation in respecting ourselves and others. This was a very successful event that had the dual functions of celebration and get-together. It will be remembered fondly. "In 1978, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Feinian Overseas Chinese Federation, it also published its own National Day special for the first time. Its cover uses "China Red" as the background color and the words "Fenian Overseas Chinese Federation United States National Day Commemoration" As the title, there are portraits of eight Chinese beauty queens selected from 1970 to 1977. The special contents include congratulatory messages from federal justice Deng Xinping and state and municipal government officials, congratulatory messages, poems and messages from 13 organizations affiliated to the Overseas Chinese Federation. The beauty queen Helen Yu also has photos and acceptance speeches. Since then, National Day special editions have been published one after another. By 2008, the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Overseas Chinese Federation, the National Day commemorative booklet once again published commemorative articles and pictures, looking back on the past and looking forward to the new journey. In recent years, most of the photos and data of the beauty pageants were printed in color pages, allowing these Phoenix City beauties to stay in the beautiful memories of their youth even without flying on the branches. We would like to make a special point. In the early days of Huanghuang City, where there were not many Chinese, our overseas Chinese ancestors established the Overseas Chinese Federation. Adhering to one purpose, with a passion, and relying on the support of all overseas Chinese in Huanghuang City, they have worked tirelessly to hold National Day activities for more than 40 years, including 28 beauty pageants. There have been 28 Chinese-American ladies. This persistence and success are unique among Chinese communities in major cities in the United States (you can check it on the Google website). The Chinese in Phoenix City should record this history, cherish this enthusiasm, cherish the contributions of their overseas Chinese ancestors, and continue to carry forward this fine tradition as the torch is passed down from generation to generation!
