Zhang Zhaohong: Found the family history of Deng Xiangyuan, the ancestor of the Chinese people in Alberta Phoenix City Zhang Zhaohong More than a hundred years ago, the Chinese ancestors who immigrated from China to Phoenix, Arizona...

Local families

Phoenix Zhang Zhaohong More than a hundred years ago, the Chinese ancestors who immigrated to Phoenix, Arizona, were mostly members of the Deng clan in Kaiping. They made many contributions to local politics, economy and culture. Recently, new information has been found on the family history of Deng Xiangyuan, the owner of the "First Chinese Tombstone" in the "Ancestors and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery". When the article "The Tombstone Mystery" about the life experience of ancestor Deng Xiangyuan was published, it aroused the response of the overseas Chinese community in Phoenix City. First, Mr. Deng Jiajian provided the collection of "Qushui Wencong", which let us know the typesetting of the three generations of Deng's family: "The family is rich and prosperous; the career is prosperous and the world is prosperous; the plan is to worship Yanyi; the Xu is prosperous." You can know the level of his generation by looking at the typesetting. For example: Deng Xiangyuan's paternal grandfather was named Deng Dingyuan in the generation of Yuan; his father was named Deng Tianfang in the generation of Fang; he himself was named Deng Xiangyuan in the generation of Yuan. However, the book lacks information about the descendants of distant generations. Recently, we found the genealogy of Deng Xiangyuan for seven generations from his grandfather to his descendants, as well as some history of the Deng family going back a hundred years. The provider of the information is 89-year-old Warren Ong who currently lives in Phoenix. Mr. Deng's grandfather, Deng Xianyuan, is Deng Xiangyuan's brother. In alphabetical order, Deng Xibang belongs to the "long" generation and is called Deng Wanglong. He is Deng Xiangyuan's grandnephew and is currently the highest-ranking living person among the three members of the Deng family. This information is a proposal in 2001 by the descendants of Deng's third family to raise funds to repair the ancestral hall of their ancestor Deng Tianfang, who was Deng Xiangyuan's father. The full text of the proposal is as follows: I would like to inform the family members: After more than a hundred years of vicissitudes, the ancestral temple of Tianfang has been in disrepair for a long time. The tiles have collapsed, the walls are cracked, and the stone pillars at the door are tilted. It has become a dangerous building. Now the Mongolian government has handed over the property rights of the ancestral hall to my Tianfang descendants for management and urged us to build it. Tracing back to my ancestor Tianfang Gong's difficulties in starting a business, generations of ancestors told that when Tianfang was in his prime, he still did not do his job and lived in the casino all day long. His father Dingyuan Gong strictly taught him a lesson and went to the gambling venue to flog him with a stick. At the site where Tianfang Temple is now located, after years of hard work, diligence and frugality, this achievement was finally achieved. In his later years, he built shrines one after another, finally fulfilling his original wish. It is true that a prodigal son can never change his fortune, and this ancestral hall is a testimony to this, and it has profound educational significance for our descendants. The ancestral hall has become a dangerous temple. If it is not repaired in time, it will be in danger of collapse. We, our descendants, cannot regret this historical memorial relic! After discussion with the clan members in the village, the ancestral hall must be rebuilt so that it will be remembered for centuries. I hope that my Tianfang descendants will work together to achieve good deeds. According to preliminary estimates, the construction cost is RMB 250,000. I would like to ask you to donate your money and help us make it happen. I would be very lucky. I respectfully submit this complaint. An Minmu, Jinyue, Anguo, Zongye Notice Spring 2001 Contact person in the United States: Deng Xibang, Hong Kong: Deng Xiling, China: Deng Anguo Behind the proposal, there is a genealogy of the Deng family, including the four sons of Deng Tianfang: Xuyuan, Zaoyuan, Xianyuan, Xiangyuan and dozens of Chinese names of their descendants. Except for the English names of some of the next generation born overseas, such as Deng Xinping's descendants, which are not recorded, this genealogy is the most complete genealogy of the Deng Tianfang family currently found. This historical material is rich in content and highly reliable, and will provide a lot of help for future research on the history of Chinese ancestors in Alberta. Mr. Deng also provided information about the tribesmen, which is currently being compiled.
