The forest fires to the east continued, and on June 13, hay burned in Maricopa County, which continued for a day or two. According to the Maricopa County Fire Department, the fire started late Saturday night in a 25X50-yard haystack burning in a pasture on Highway 238 North and Green Road West, and crews from two fire departments arrived. But with limited water in the area, firefighters had difficulty controlling the blaze. Fortunately there were no casualties and no buildings were threatened. Smoke from burning hay may cause respiratory diseases. The fire department recommends residents with respiratory diseases to stay indoors as much as possible and reduce outdoor activities.
