>Little wild wolves appear in central Phoenix Phoenix - It’s not surprising at all that urban wolves are among us. But many residents were surprised to see wild animals in central Phoenix recently. The Arizona Fish and Game Department said there have been numerous calls coming in about coyote sightings at Center Street and Indian School Road. There are many apartment complexes, schools, communities and businesses in the area, and the light rail is also nearby. Sightings have occurred in Indiana School Road Park and surrounding communities in recent weeks. Lucier, who lives near where the coyote sighting occurred, said he saw a wolf last week. "(I was) on my couch and saw it at night, it was a shocking thing, it was amazing, I live downtown and normally you don't see wolves downtown," Lucier said. Many of his neighbors said they also saw animals, often early in the morning or late at night. Many people say they are cats and puppies. But according to Darren Julian, an urban wildlife specialist with the Arizona Department of Fish and Game, wild wolves can be attracted to homes by pet food. He said people in the area should know that wolves are there and they can prey on small pets. Julian said if you see a wolf, don't feed it or get too close to it or it will feel unwelcome.
