Another wildfire broke out in Payson and La Verne. On Sunday afternoon, firefighters received reports of a new wildfire burning in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Payson, within the Black Mesa Range Area. The wildfire is 44 miles northeast of Payson and about a mile from Bear Valley Lake. The fire headed northeast and burned about 500 acres on the first day. The fire department said strong winds fueled the wildfires, making it difficult to extinguish them. At the same time, due to strong winds, helicopters were unable to join the firefighting ranks. On Monday, a wildfire also broke out on the Gila River Indian Reservation southwest of Phoenix. Authorities named the fire the "Dobbins Fire" in the area of Dobbins and 83rd in Laveen, near Phoenix. The fire burned 75 acres, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze by Monday night.
