Sandstorm on July 18 (Picture from The Arizona Republic)

At 6 pm on July 18, 2011, the second severe sandstorm this month occurred in Phoenix. The sky darkened in the evening and you could smell the dust in the air even indoors. The wind and sand started to pick up. At 6:30, the reporter drove to Highway 51 and Highway 202. There were far fewer vehicles on the highway than before. Most people chose to change the time they went out in order to avoid the risk of sandstorms. The speed of vehicles on the highway is also slower than before, about 60 miles. Visibility on the highway is about 500 meters. The wind speed of this sandstorm in the city was much slower than that of the sandstorm a few weeks ago. There has been no damage caused by the sandstorm so far.
