Phoenix Airport ranks among the top ten most dangerous airports in the United States. The latest "Travel and Leisure" magazine pointed out that Phoenix Airport has been rated as one of the most dangerous airports in the United States. The magazine claims it based its conclusions on FAA runway safety reports and independent runway data over the past five years at the 35 busiest airports in the United States. Konggang Airport ranked 8th, citing 19 runway accidents. In March 2010, a departing Southwest Airlines 737 nearly collided with an arriving Imperial Airways Cessna flight, just 50 feet apart. The magazine also reported on the airport's recently completed runway safety improvements, including runway status lights, new taxiway connectors and a safety buffer extension that was completed by the end of the year.
