The Peoria fire chief resigned angrily due to dissatisfaction with the new pension system. The state retirement agency asked Solberg to enroll in a retirement security plan for state public safety employees, but Solberg declined, according to a city news release. Peoria City Manager Carl Swenson called Solberg's departure "unfortunate." Thomas Solberg's resignation will be effective November 10. Assistant Fire Chief Stacey Eyre has been named interim chief and the city will conduct an open search for a new chief.
