The police in Alberta arrested nearly 100 people in two separate actions to support Occupy Wall Street on the 16th. Last Saturday, a series of peaceful protests against financial institutions took place in many places across the country to cheer and support the Occupy Wall Street movement, and Alberta was no exception. That day, police arrested 45 people in Tucson and detained 53 people in Phoenix. The demonstration in Phoenix started at noon on Saturday, with the largest number of people exceeding 1,000 people. In the evening, protesters marched from Cesar Chavez Square in downtown Phoenix to Margaret T. Hance Park. The park was scheduled to close at 10:30, but these demonstrators refused to leave. The police used more than 100 riot police officers and took away 53 people around 11:30. The event in Tucson was attended by 500 people, and the crowd gradually dispersed after dark, with the remaining people gathering at Military Plaza Park. The police took away 45 people when they cleared the area. Those arrested were released Sunday night. Demonstrators say the occupation will not be interrupted in Alberta and demonstrations will continue this weekend.
