> The federal government re-evaluates the five-year Arizona Medicaid program {ACCCH) with new rates. On Friday, federal officials said they would re-authorize cost-cutting measures that include a freeze on new applicants and new patient copayments. The state government has proposed some reforms, either reducing the number of subsidy recipients or requiring patients to pay certain costs out of pocket, such as an annual fee of $50 for smokers. Currently, the Alberta budget requires the governor's cabinet to reduce state government spending on Medicaid by about $5 million to help with the overall budget shortfall of $1.1 billion. A major part of the state government's plan is to save $19 billion in additional cuts expected this year for hospitals and other medical providers. Federal officials said they are considering separate reviews.
