The governor appointed a child safety task force (Alberta Times) On Tuesday (November 1), Arizona's child safety task force was formally established, and Governor Brewer appointed members of the team. The panel's responsibilities are to review child safety policies, monitor the healthy development of the state's children, and investigate potential cases of abuse and neglect. Members of the task force include 19 people including the Maricopa County Attorney, the state Supreme Court justice, the Maricopa County Supreme Court judge, the director of the state Department of Economic Security, the director of the Children's Aid Center, a professor at the ASU School of Social Work, a state senator, student representatives, community leaders, volunteers, and parent representatives. Maricopa County Attorney General Montgomery is the chairman, and the director of the state Department of Economic Security is the vice chairman. The task force will hold at least two public hearings through Dec. 31 to hear testimony from experts on child protective services investigations and management, law enforcement investigations, the courts, social services, foster care services, crisis shelters and children's homes, and the Executive Office of Child Welfare Advocacy, and provide a professional report to the governor.
