According to a news release from Customs and Border Protection, border patrol officers in southern Alberta arrested five people and seized illegally imported weapons, ammunition and drugs in three recent operations. Last Thursday, Douglas agents intercepted a suspicious vehicle with two U.S. citizens inside and seized 165 pounds of marijuana. On Friday, Tucson detectives followed footprints and found three abandoned backpacks in the desert containing bricks of marijuana and a .22 revolver with ammunition. No one was arrested in the incident. On Sunday, a truck entering the United States from Mexico at the Dennis DeConcini Port was found suspicious. After a search, agents found 26 packages of cocaine worth $567,700 in the truck's fuel tank. A 26-year-old Mexican male citizen was arrested and later turned over to the Department of Homeland Security, which is responsible for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, for investigation. On Monday, Casa Grande detectives assisted Pinal County Sheriff's Office deputies when they discovered three suspected illegal immigrants and U.S. citizens in a vehicle near Interstate 84. After a search, detectives found a revolver hidden under the driver's seat of the vehicle and a loaded pistol and additional ammunition in the pocket behind the driver's seat. Those arrested will be charged with four counts. Customs and Border Protection would like to receive information about the above cases from the public. Citizens can anonymously call 1-877-872-7435.
