> Phoenix billboard regulations The Phoenix City Council passed a new billboard ordinance last Wednesday that may add more electronic billboards to city roads, but prohibits the erection of billboards in residential areas and increases the density of billboards on highways. The city council voted 5:4 to pass the ordinance to increase the density of billboards on highways and narrow the spacing between billboards on city streets. With the goal of protecting residential areas and the beauty of the city, the billboards will be concentrated in a reasonable section of the road. The new regulations also require merchants to convert billboards into digital billboards. Dilapidated billboards on old buildings and those hung before 1986 will be treated as unqualified.
