Last week, romaine lettuce grown in the state was pulled from grocery stores in at least seven states after testing positive for salmonella. Although no salmonella was found in the lettuce in supermarkets, the test results at Salinas Farm alarmed retailers and required the product to be removed from the shelves out of caution. California-based Salinas has decided to remove lettuce that had been sold to at least seven states, including Smith Foods and Drug Stores in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Nevada, after testing positive for salmonella infection in lettuce grown at its farms in Arizona. More than 200 stores were affected.
