>A Peoria woman faces a felony charge of animal cruelty on February 6. Her dog, a tabby pit bull mix, chewed half of his right leg short.
Animal control officers contacted Michelle, 22, after the Peoria Police Department received an anonymous tip complaining that she was not getting her dog, Carmela, the medical attention she deserved.
Police said the owner told him the dog Carmela was injured after the dog was hit by a car about a year ago.
When the official examined Carmela, the lower part of her right front leg had fallen off, exposing the bones and flesh, and was infected. Carmella was left with a bloody mark.
Despite being offered a payment plan by the veterinarian, owner Michelle failed to treat the dog's injuries. She also chose Carmela Humane Euthanasia to end her long suffering.
Animal Control in Peoria surrendered her dog, police said. The dogs are being cared for at the Peoria Emergency Animal Clinic. She was later transferred to the Arizona Humane Society, where veterinarians performed surgery on the dog. The Animal Shelter in Sun Valley provided care for Carmela after the surgery.
In addition to the animal cruelty prosecution, Michelle is also ordered to repay the costs of continued treatment and care for Carmela while she recovers.
Carmela has recovered and is waiting to be fostered.
