The light rail project in Mesa City will start in the next month. Mesa city officials said the entire project will take three years and include 117 land acquisitions along the route. The railway line will see all or part of 13 street frontage buildings demolished. The first phase of the project will move nine manholes to connect 20-foot underground pipes for future tracks. The Main Street side will be closed as work requires. Mesa officials said they plan to open a one-mile site in the summer, a slow season for businesses, and hope to reduce disruption to businesses along the route.
