Maricopa County Sheriff Arpaio held a press conference on the 1st to announce the results of a multi-day investigation, alleging that the Obama birth certificate released by the White House in April last year "has reason to believe that it was fabricated by a computer"; the draft card that Obama filled out in Hawaii in 1980 is also likely to be fake. It once again challenged the authenticity of President Obama's birth certificate, and also continued to question whether Obama was born in the United States and his legality to serve as president. "We don't know who altered the documents," he said, but said he did not believe President Obama forged the documents. In the past, some people made a big fuss about Obama's birth certificate, but Obama has produced Obama's birth certificate, and the court also rejected the lawsuit challenging Obama's non-citizen status. Whether Obama, whose biological father is a Kenyan student, was born in the United States has always been popular among conspiracy theorists. Even if Obama himself and the authorities of the state of Hawaii where he was born provide birth certificates, it is still difficult to believe these conspirators. Apao has been in constant trouble lately. A federal grand jury investigated him for abuse of power, racial profiling of Hispanics, mistreatment of Hispanics, and failure to seriously investigate hundreds of sex crimes. Instead of keeping a low profile, Arpaio once again challenged the authenticity of President Obama's birth certificate on the 1st. But Apao said, "I'm not going after Obama, I'm just doing my job." He also said that this investigation was conducted by volunteer lawyers and retired police officers, and no taxpayer money was used, just to prove that "there is no political motivation." Some critics believe that by pointing the finger at Obama, he is actually diverting public attention from the accusations he faces. Critics who want Arpaio to resign point to more than 400 sex crime investigations in the three years ending in 2007 that were either inaccurate or not investigated at all. A federal grand jury is investigating abuses of power by Arpaio's anti-corruption unit dating back to December 2009. The Justice Department also filed a complaint against Arpaio's office for racial profiling. Apao's office punishes Hispanics in prison for speaking Spanish. But Arpaio denied that Arizona's immigration enforcement was politically motivated.
